Vrede door de Geest in Jesaja

God schiep de wereld volmaakt. In Genesis 1 ziet Hij dat alles wat Hij gemaakt heeft “zeer goed” is. De schepping was harmonieus: vrede tussen God en mens, tussen mensen onderling, en zelfs binnen de natuur.Maar door de zonde is die vrede verbroken. De mens koos zijn eigen weg, en daardoor ontstond vervreemding, strijd en gebrokenheid.

Jesaja profeteert in een tijd waarin het volk van God uiterlijk nog religieus is, maar innerlijk ver van Hem leeft. God klaagt: “Ik heb kinderen grootgebracht, maar zij zijn tegen Mij in opstand gekomen.” Het volk leeft in zonde en onrecht, en daarom komt oordeel. Toch blijft er altijd een trouwe rest die vasthoudt aan de HEER — mensen die, midden in een goddeloze generatie, in relatie met God blijven wandelen.

Gods doel is echter niet vernietiging, maar herstel.Jesaja verkondigt dat God bezig is de verbroken relatie te genezen: de schepping te vernieuwen en ware vrede te brengen.

1. De visie van Jesaja: oordeel en herstel

Jesaja beschrijft de toestand van Juda: verwoesting, onrecht en geestelijke leegte.Maar in die duisternis klinkt de hoop:er komt een dag dat alle volken zullen optrekken naar de berg van de HEER (Jesaja 2).God zal rechtspreken, en de volken zullen hun wapens omvormen tot werktuigen van vrede.Dit visioen toont het uiteindelijke doel van God — een wereld waarin Hij centraal staat en de volken in harmonie leven onder zijn gezag.

2. De universele vrede van God

De vrede van God is niet beperkt tot Israël.Jesaja ziet dat ook de heidenvolken deel krijgen aan het licht van God.De berg van Sion symboliseert de aanwezigheid van de HEER:de plaats waar mensen zijn Woord ontvangen en zijn wegen leren kennen.In die toekomst zal de ware aanbidding van God het middelpunt zijn van de aarde —en alle andere vormen van afgoderij zullen verdwijnen.

Dat visioen krijgt zijn begin in het Evangelie van Jezus Christus.In Hem komen Joden en niet-Joden samen als één volk van God,en aanbidden ze de Vader “in geest en in waarheid” (Johannes 4).

3. De vervulling van de belofte: Immanuël

In Jesaja 7:14 belooft God een teken:“De jonge vrouw zal zwanger worden en een zoon baren, en hem de naam Immanuël geven.”Hoewel koning Achaz niet op God vertrouwt, blijft God trouw en belooft Hij zelf te komen —God met ons.

In Jezus Christus wordt deze belofte vervuld.Hij is de Messiaanse Koning uit de lijn van David,de ware Dienaar van God,die in volmaakte gemeenschap met de Vader leeften vrede brengt aan wie in Hem geloven.

4. Jezus de Vredevorst

Jesaja 9 noemt Hem:“Wonderbare Raadsman, Sterke God, Eeuwige Vader, Vredevorst.”Jezus is de vervulling van alle koninklijke verwachtingen.In Hem wordt de muur van vijandschap afgebroken;Hij verzoent mens met God en mensen met elkaar.

Jesaja 11 laat zien hoe de Geest van de HEER op Hem rust:

• de Geest van wijsheid en inzicht,

• de Geest van raad en sterkte,

• de Geest van kennis en ontzag voor de HEER.

Diezelfde Geest leidt ook Jezus in zijn bediening.Hij oordeelt niet naar uiterlijk, maar naar het hart;Hij spreekt recht, troost de armen en geneest de gebrokenen van hart.Hij is bekleed met gerechtigheid en trouw,en daardoor brengt Hij recht en vrede.

5. De herstelde schepping

Jesaja gebruikt het beeld van de wolf en het lam die samen leven.Dat is geen sprookje, maar een beeld van de herstelde schepping:een wereld waarin alle vijandschap verdwenen is.Die vrede begint nu al in mensen die door de Heilige Geest vernieuwd worden.De Geest verandert onze aard:uit trots komt nederigheid,uit boosheid vergeving,uit haat liefde.God vormt zijn volk tot een gemeenschap van vredestichters.

6. De wapenrusting van vrede

Paulus pakt deze gedachte op in Efeziërs 6.De strijd van gelovigen is niet tegen mensen, maar tegen de machten van het kwaad.Daarom geeft God zijn wapenrusting: waarheid, gerechtigheid, geloof, redding,en “de voeten geschoeid met de bereidheid van het Evangelie van vrede.”Het Evangelie is geen wapen om te haten, maar een boodschap van verzoening.De ware overwinning is de overwinning van liefde.

7. Innerlijke vrede door vertrouwen

Vrede begint in het hart.Wie op Jezus vertrouwt, vindt rust, ook te midden van problemen.Vrede is niet de afwezigheid van strijd,maar de zekerheid dat God met ons is.Zoals Jezus zegt in Mattheüs 11:28–30:“Kom tot Mij, allen die vermoeid en belast zijn, en Ik zal je rust geven.”

In Hem vinden mensen rust voor hun ziel —en uit die innerlijke vrede vloeit de kracht om ook anderen vrede te brengen.Zo werkt de Heilige Geest in gelovigen om hen te maken tot dragers van Gods vrede in de wereld.

Peace Through the Spirit in Isaiah

God created the world perfectly. In Genesis 1 He saw that everything He had made was “very good.” Creation was harmonious: peace between God and humanity, between people themselves, and even within nature.But through sin that peace was broken. Humanity chose its own way, bringing alienation, conflict, and brokenness.

Isaiah prophesied in a time when God’s people were still religious outwardly, but inwardly far from Him. God laments: “I have reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against Me.” The nation lived in sin and injustice, and therefore judgment came. Yet there always remained a faithful remnant—people who, even in a corrupt generation, continued to walk with God.

However, God’s goal is not destruction but restoration.Isaiah proclaims that God is working to heal the broken relationship, to renew creation, and to bring true peace.

1. Isaiah’s vision: judgment and restoration

Isaiah describes Judah’s condition: devastation, injustice, and spiritual emptiness.But in that darkness a word of hope shines:a day will come when all nations will go up to the mountain of the LORD (Isaiah 2).God will judge righteously, and the nations will beat their swords into plowshares.No more war—only peace under God’s reign.This vision reveals God’s ultimate purpose: a world where He is central and all peoples live in harmony under His rule.

2. The universal peace of God

God’s peace is not limited to Israel.Isaiah foresees that even the Gentiles will share in the light of God.Mount Zion symbolizes God’s presence—the place where people receive His Word and learn His ways.In that future, the true worship of the LORD will be the center of the world,and all false worship will fade away.

That vision begins its fulfillment in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.In Him, Jews and Gentiles come together as one people of God,worshiping the Father “in spirit and in truth” (John 4).

3. The fulfillment of the promise: Immanuel

In Isaiah 7:14, God gives a sign:“The young woman will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”Even though King Ahaz did not trust God, the Lord promised that He Himself would come—God with us.

This promise is fulfilled in Jesus Christ,the Messianic King from the line of David,the true Servant of God,who lives in perfect fellowship with the Fatherand brings peace to all who believe in Him.

4. Jesus, the Prince of Peace

Isaiah 9 declares:“For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given… and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”Jesus is the fulfillment of that prophecy—the King who brings peace between God and humanity and among all peoples.

Isaiah 11 describes that the Spirit of the LORD rests upon Him—

• the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

• the Spirit of counsel and might,

• the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

This same Spirit empowered Jesus throughout His ministry.He judges not by appearance but by the heart;He defends the poor, heals the brokenhearted,and is clothed with righteousness and faithfulness.He speaks words that bring both truth and healing, justice and restoration.

5. The restored creation

Isaiah paints the image of the wolf dwelling with the lamb.This is not a fantasy but a prophetic picture of the renewed creation—a world where enmity has ceased.That peace begins already now in those who are renewed by the Holy Spirit.The Spirit transforms hearts:pride becomes humility,anger becomes forgiveness,hatred becomes love.God forms His people into a community of peacemakers.

6. The armor of peace

Paul builds on this theme in Ephesians 6.The believer’s struggle is not against flesh and blood,but against the spiritual forces of evil.Therefore, God provides His armor—truth, righteousness, faith, salvation,and “feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the Gospel of peace.”The Gospel is not a weapon to hate, but a message of reconciliation.The true victory is the victory of love.

7. Inner peace through trust

Peace begins in the heart.Those who trust in Jesus find rest even in the midst of difficulty.Peace is not the absence of troublebut the certainty that God is with us.As Jesus says in Matthew 11:28–30:“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

In Him we find rest for our souls—and from that inner peace flows the strength to bring peace to others.Through the Holy Spirit, believers become bearers of God’s peace in the world.

La paix par l’Esprit dans Ésaïe

Dieu créa le monde parfait. Dans Genèse 1, Il vit que tout ce qu’Il avait fait était “très bon”.La création était harmonieuse : paix entre Dieu et l’humanité, entre les êtres humains eux-mêmes et même dans la nature.Mais à cause du péché, cette paix fut brisée. L’homme choisit sa propre voie, provoquant séparation, conflit et désordre.

Ésaïe prophétisa à une époque où le peuple de Dieu restait religieux en apparence, mais dont le cœur était éloigné de Lui.Dieu se plaint : « J’ai nourri et élevé des enfants, mais ils se sont rebellés contre Moi. »Le peuple vivait dans le péché et l’injustice, et le jugement tomba.Pourtant, il demeura toujours un reste fidèle — des hommes et des femmes qui, même au milieu d’une génération corrompue, continuaient à marcher avec Dieu.

Mais le but de Dieu n’est pas la destruction, mais la restauration.Ésaïe annonce que Dieu agit pour guérir la relation rompue, renouveler la création et rétablir la vraie paix.

1. La vision d’Ésaïe : jugement et restauration

Ésaïe décrit la condition de Juda : ruine, injustice et vide spirituel.Mais au cœur de ces ténèbres, une espérance surgit :viendra un jour où toutes les nations monteront à la montagne du Seigneur (Ésaïe 2).Dieu jugera avec justice, et les nations forgeront leurs épées en socs de charrue.Il n’y aura plus de guerre, seulement la paix sous le règne de Dieu.Cette vision révèle le but ultime de Dieu : un monde où Il est au centre,et où tous les peuples vivent en harmonie sous son autorité.

2. La paix universelle de Dieu

La paix de Dieu n’est pas réservée à Israël.Ésaïe voit que même les nations païennes participeront à la lumière de Dieu.La montagne de Sion symbolise la présence du Seigneur —le lieu où les hommes reçoivent sa Parole et apprennent ses voies.Dans cet avenir, la véritable adoration du Seigneur sera le centre du monde,et toute fausse religion disparaîtra.

Cette vision commence à s’accomplir dans l’Évangile de Jésus-Christ.En Lui, Juifs et non-Juifs deviennent un seul peuple de Dieu,adorant le Père “en esprit et en vérité” (Jean 4).

3. L’accomplissement de la promesse : Immanuel

Dans Ésaïe 7 :14, Dieu donne un signe :« La jeune femme deviendra enceinte, elle enfantera un fils et l’appellera Immanuel. »Même si le roi Achaz ne faisait pas confiance à Dieu, le Seigneur promet de venir Lui-même —Dieu avec nous.

Cette promesse s’accomplit en Jésus-Christ,le Roi messianique issu de la lignée de David,le véritable Serviteur de Dieu,qui vit en parfaite communion avec le Pèreet apporte la paix à tous ceux qui croient en Lui.

4. Jésus, le Prince de la paix

Ésaïe 9 proclame :« Car un enfant nous est né, un fils nous est donné… on l’appellera Admirable Conseiller, Dieu puissant, Père éternel, Prince de la paix. »Jésus est l’accomplissement de cette prophétie —le Roi qui apporte la paix entre Dieu et l’homme, et entre les peuples.

Ésaïe 11 déclare que l’Esprit du Seigneur reposera sur Lui :

• Esprit de sagesse et d’intelligence,

• Esprit de conseil et de force,

• Esprit de connaissance et de crainte du Seigneur.

Le même Esprit accompagna Jésus tout au long de son ministère.Il ne juge pas selon l’apparence, mais selon le cœur ;Il défend les pauvres, guérit les cœurs brisés,et est revêtu de justice et de fidélité.Ses paroles apportent à la fois vérité et guérison, justice et restauration.

5. La création restaurée

Ésaïe dépeint l’image du loup demeurant avec l’agneau.Ce n’est pas une fable, mais une vision prophétique de la création renouvelée —un monde où toute inimitié a disparu.Cette paix commence déjà maintenant dans ceux que le Saint-Esprit renouvelle.L’Esprit transforme les cœurs :l’orgueil devient humilité,la colère devient pardon,la haine devient amour.Dieu forme ainsi son peuple en une communauté d’artisans de paix.

6. L’armure de la paix

Paul reprend ce thème dans Éphésiens 6.Le combat du croyant n’est pas contre des hommes,mais contre les puissances spirituelles du mal.C’est pourquoi Dieu nous donne son armure : la vérité, la justice, la foi, le salut,et “les pieds chaussés du zèle de l’Évangile de la paix.”L’Évangile n’est pas une arme pour haïr, mais un message de réconciliation.La véritable victoire est la victoire de l’amour.

7. La paix intérieure par la confiance

La paix commence dans le cœur.Celui qui se confie en Jésus trouve le repos, même au milieu des épreuves.La paix n’est pas l’absence de problèmes,mais la certitude que Dieu est avec nous.Comme le dit Jésus dans Matthieu 11 :28-30 :« Venez à moi, vous tous qui êtes fatigués et chargés, et je vous donnerai du repos. »

En Lui, l’âme trouve le vrai repos —et de cette paix intérieure découle la force de transmettre la paix aux autres.Par le Saint-Esprit, les croyants deviennent porteurs de la paix de Dieu dans le monde.
