The Modern Church
Twentieth-century theology placed strong emphasis on the Holy Spirit as the source of peace, renewal, and reconciliation in a world shaped by war and social change. Influential theologians such as Karl Barth, Jürgen Moltmann, and Yves Congar explored the Spirit’s role in guiding the Church, renewing faith, and fostering unity. Pentecostal and liberation theologians also connected the Holy Spirit with spiritual healing, justice, and social peace. Across Christian traditions, peace came to be understood not only as the absence of conflict, but as a deep spiritual transformation brought by the presence of the Holy Spirit.
